The Courtyard Garden

A courtyard garden ("tsuboniwa" in Japanese) is usually enclosed by walls or hedges, and is an extension of your living space. All the natural elements of light, shadow, wind, sound, color and scent are enclosed in this space, creating an oasis of beauty and tranquillity.

Removing the original plantings, Yoshi re-designed this garden using sculptural plants, evergreens and shrubs. He created a new spacious urban courtyard by carefully placing the stone lantern, water basin, and "dry stream" with a bridge Naturalistic inner courtyard garden in White Rock, B.C. Evergreen plantings and ornamental grasses enhance the stream that flows from the "waterfall mountain" rocks down under a bridge to a pond below. Accents of decorative stepping stones and an elegant Kasuga style stone lantern are features of this garden viewed from four rooms.
